But first let me say engagement rings are a personal choice. It's about you, your choice, and your preferences. This blog is not about what is the best choice for purchasing an engagement ring, that is of course YOUR choice. I am going to talk about what is trending right now in the engagement rings. For those of you who want to get into the details of what to look for in buying an engagement ring, that will be a future blog.
What is Trending?
How about a ‘’toi et moi” engagement ring? ( “Toi et moi” translates to ‘you and me’ , it is a pair of side by side stones to symbolize the lovers’ union.) Have you noticed some celebrity couples with these rings?
Think superstar Ariana Grande and her now husband Dalton Gomez. She is wearing an oval diamond on an angle with a sentimental round white pearl( Ariana’s birthstone).Or Megan Fox's engagement ring wth Machine Gun Kelly? According to Machine Gun Kelly, "I know tradition is one ring, but I designed it with Stephen Webster to be two: the emerald (her birth stone) and the diamond (my birth stone) set on two magnetic bands of thorns that draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love."
Another famous lady is Emily Ratajkowski. Her "toi et moi" engagement ring is a gorgeous pear shape diamond and princess cut diamond!
Solange Knowles also had an 'you and me' diamond engagement ring. (Solange is no longer married to Alex Ferguson, hummm wondering what happen to the ring?)
Falling in love and choosing a partner to share your life with is a very exciting and special time in your life!
But you know what? The “toi et moi” ring has some history. Think Napoleon Bonaparte and Josephine. He proposed in 1796 with a 1 carat diamond and 1 carat sapphire ring. It sold at auction in 2013 for nearly 1 million dollars! In 1953, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis became engaged to future President John Kennedy with a 2.88 carat diamond next to a 2.84 carat emerald.
Even though these trends are popular among our celebrity friends, the trend is definitely moving mainstream. Our customers at Henry Wilson Jewelers are asking about them, meeting with our goldsmith and designing their own “toi et moi” ring!
