7 Unique Ways To Celebrate Valentine’s Day During Covid

By: Racheal Morrow

Valentine’s Day celebrations may look different this year than in years past, but there are still plenty of ways to safely celebrate with the one you love. Below, we put together a list of fun V-Day date ideas to make this Valentine’s Day one to remember!

1. Get out in Nature

Between the pandemic and the snowy bitter temps we’ve been experiencing, it’s likely you’ve both been cooped up at home for what seems like an eternity now. Don’t wait for summer to experience NYS parks— bundle up this Valentine’s Day and go for a nature walk!

2. Have a Picnic at Home

While area restaurants have recently opened up limited indoor seating, take-out might be your best option for Valentine’s Day dinner this year. Along with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day is historically the busiest day of the year for restaurants. Forgo the long wait times and plan your take-out order from your favorite restaurant ahead of time. Bring it home and set up a picnic on the living room floor complete with candles, twinkle lights, and a curated playlist of your favorite songs!

3. Celebrate with Friends

If you’ve been working from home with your partner, the pandemic has given you a unique opportunity to spend a lot of time together. Consider opening up your social circle by spending this Valentine’s Day celebrating all of the people in your lives that make you feel loved and supported by scheduling a game night on the Houseparty App or a watch party on Netflix.

4. Pillow fort Movie Night

There’s nothing more romantic than building a pillow fort together in the living room! Not only does it bring back nostalgia from childhood, but crashing in the living room for the night will break you out of your day-to-day routine— making this date night feel extra special. Cozy it up with string lights and a romantic movie!

5. Take an Online Cooking Class

If ordering take-out is your norm, perhaps you and your valentine would have fun shaking it up with a home cooked meal! There are several platforms offering online cooking classes. You can even find some for free on YouTube! Choose a class ahead of time to ensure you have all the ingredients you need for this romantic Valentine’s Day date at home.

6. Watch Your Wedding Video

Re-watching your wedding video will bring back the butterflies of your wedding and make for an extra-emotional Valentine’s Day. If you are in the mood for nostalgia, walk down memory lane even further by breaking open the memory boxes full of old photos, cards, and love letters that have been collecting dust in the closet and go through them together.

7. Go Gift Shopping Together

Traditionally, we surprise our partner with a thoughtful gift on Valentine’s Day, but this past year has been anything but normal or traditional. What if you went shopping together this year? Henry Wilson’s is open on Valentine’s Day from 10AM-2PM so you can turn gift shopping into a date-day!
